Preparing for Life's Curveballs
Too often people overestimate the significance of one big defining life decision or moment in their lives and underestimate the value of making small decisions on a daily basis. Developing the daily habits that add up over the course of time that can either have an immensely positive effect compounded over time or the opposite—a negative effect that can’t be undone.
The daily decisions that lead to habits over time are 100% within our control unlike some of the defining moments in our lives. Consistently sticking to a daily practice and developing habits that prepare you for life’s curveballs is the only way to get THROUGH those less than ideal moments.
We attach so much meaning and emotion to these big life moments and the vision we have for ourselves when life throws a curve ball at us and things DON’T go according plan, we’re crippled. Thoughts of “how could this happen to me?” or “why is this happening to me?” cloud our judgement and our ability to process what the event really means. We lose sight of the facts because we’ve fooled ourselves into believing the story we’ve created that’s filled with so much meaning we can’t make sense of it all.
When is the last time life threw a curveball at you? How did you deal with it? What’s your daily practice? How do you separate facts from story?
Learning how to manage our thoughts, feelings and emotions is one of the most important skills you can develop. Unfortunately, many people don’t understand how to develop this skill and suffer through these moments when things don’t go according to plan.
